Teutenberg wins 3rd time Liberty Classic in USA

Columbia-Highroad’s Ina Teutenberg scored her third career victory at Philadelphia’s Liberty Classic on Sunday, outsprinting a group of late-race breakaway riders, who left the field on the last of four laps.

Teutenberg also won the race, held in conjunction with the 156-mile men’s event, the Philadelphia International Championship, in 2005 and 2007.

Teutenberg’s Columbia squad played a pivotal role in creating the key break of the race as four of its members joined a major move on the final trip up the Manayunk Wall, the short, steep climb that highlights the 14.4-mile Philadelphia circuit.

Teutenberg joined teammates Judith Arndt, Mara Abbott and Kim Anderson in a 12-rider group that moved ahead of the field on the climb. Teutenberg was able to benefit from her teammates’ efforts at keeping the pace high as the breakaway riders neared the finish line.

Teutenberg launched her sprint with about 300 meters to go and easily fended off second-place finisher Joanne Kiesanowski (TIBCO) to lock up the win.
